Defence Ministry's Take On : Armed Forces Officers V/S Civilian Officers

New Delhi: Indian Armed Forces recently objected the elevation of civilian officers in comparison with their military counterparts. It is further clarified by a press release from Ministry of Defence on 27 Oct that there has been no down-gradation or any change in the existing equivalence of the service ranks .The existing functional equivalence as reviewed in 2004,2005,2008 and now in 2016 will remain as it was earlier as it will not effect the functional work structure in AFHQ.

According to the circular on October 18 , an officer of the rank of Major General in the army and equivalent to Rear Admiral in the navy and Air Vice Marshal in the air force, will be equivalent to a Principal Director in the civil service ranks at AFHQ. Similarly the Brigadier in the army, Commodore in the navy and Air Commodore in the air force will be equivalent to a Director; and lastly a Colonel in the Army ,Captain in the navy and Group Captain in the air force will be equal to a joint director in the Civil Service.

Keeping the current scenario of our country where Armed Force personnel are sacrificing their lives for nation. Policy makers deliberately made decision about rank parity, delaying pending anomalies of  7 CPC of Defence and reducing disability pension which will certainly going to effect the morale of Defence personnel. It is matter of great concern that whole Nation is celebrating Diwali for soldiers on social media and prime minister himself appreciated soldiers in a public address at Himachal Pradesh last week.
